#HalloweenBlitz (Day 11) #Interview #Giveaway: 'Checkmate' by Jonathan Patrick

Julie Folk, Jewels to her friends, has a problem. As a newly hired computer systems analyst at a brand new government agency, she and her team have little or no support in their efforts to determine who is attacking America's missile defense systems. In a race against time to determine whether it's the Iranians out for some payback or the Chinese making a power play, Jewels must convince America's powerful national intelligence leadership that the threat against America is both real...and imminent.

Ready for some great interview questions?

1- When did you know you wanted to write books?

The question always seems to come up, “When

did I know I wanted to write books?”

For me, however, it’s not a simple answer.

I have always loved reading books and knew, like most people, that I probably

had a book “in me,” that given the proper motivation would emerge.

My “motivation,” for lack of a better

word, showed up just over two years ago when I saw that my kids seemed to be

tentative on breaking out from their comfort zones. Being a lead-by-example

dad, I announced, “I’m writing a book.”

I decided I liked writing books the first

day into the process when my own pulse accelerated as I wrote the story.  This feeling was amplified tenfold when my

kids loved what I was writing and kept asking, “What’s next?”

2- What does your writing process look like?

I would say my writing process closely

resembles how a forensic pathologist reconstructs a face by using just a

recovered skull. I have a picture in my mind of what the final form should look

like and begin slowly adding layers. As the process progresses, I will perhaps

tweak the cheekbones or the jaw line to fit my changing perspective of the story

or of one or more characters.
